Digital Pedagogy and It's Strategic Implications for Civic Education

 

As one of the consequences of technological advancements, digital pedagogy has increasingly changed our teaching and learning experiences in the past few decades. It affects our knowledge and thinking skills, our emotional intelligence as well as our virtues. Civic education is not immune to the opportunities and challenges posed by such a transforming force. Accordingly, students and teachers of civic education need support to keep pace with it.

The 3rd Annual Civic Education Conference is an interdisciplinary platform that aims to bring together leading experts, educators, policy-makers, researchers, lecturers, teachers, and students to examine the strategic roles of digital pedagogy and their implications for civic education.

        

Sub-themes

 

This conference attempts to channel and disseminate research activities in the field of civic education with reference to the opportunities and challenges posed by digital technologies. Researchers are invited to submit their abstracts (for panels and individual papers) on any topic that falls within research areas, namely politics, sociology, anthropology, economics, business, philosophy, history, language, culture, environment, engineering, science, and law. The topic should be related to the main conference theme.

First, focusing on civic education related to digitalization (online learning) will be considered for presentation in the conference (though not exclusively), namely:

(1) Blended Learning.

(2) Flipped Classroom.

(3) Distant Learning.

(4) Web-based learning.

(5) Social Media.

 

Second, in addition, these topics can be combined with one of the following issues, but they have to have pedagogical perspectives:

(6) Institutionalizing Tolerance and Multicultural Values in a Digital Society

(7) Strengthening National Identity

(8) Enhancing Democratic Policy Process and System Performance

(9) Strengthening Rights and Democratic Culture in a National Context

(10) Strengthening Border Areas for Security and Encouraging Conflict Resolution

(11) Strengthening Multilateral Relations and Institutions for World Peace

(12) Strengthening Civil Society

(13) Strengthening Decentralization and Local Democracy,

(14) Promoting Harmony in a Pluralist Society

(15) Promoting  Local Wisdoms,

(16) Enhancing Local Knowledge,

(17) Promoting Values of Local History,

(18) Handling Controversial Issues,

(19) Promoting Social Justice,

(20) Balancing between Rights and Responsibilities, and

(21) Promoting Civility in Everyday Life.
